Stretch marks are long and narrow stripes or lines that develop on the skin and which differ in hue from the surrounding skin.
They are mainly found in the abdominal wall, but can also occur over the thighs, upper arms, buttocks and breasts.
The marks are caused by rapid weight loss or weight gain, excessive workouts, hormonal changes and pregnancy.
To get rid of stretch marks, there are natural remedies that can help:
1. Potato juice
*Potatoes are rich in vitamins and minerals such as vitamin B and C, potassium, magnesium, calcium, zinc and phosphorus, which can stimulate growth of skin cells. Just cut a potato into thicker slices, then rub them on the marks and leave them to work for 5-10 minutes before rinsing with warm water.
2. Egg whites
*Egg whites are rich in 40 different proteins as well as vitamin A and collagen which can do wonders for your skin. Whip 2 egg whites and apply them on the marks, then rinse with water once they’re dry. Apply some olive oil on the marks in the end and you can expect them to disappear soon.
3. Lemon juice
*Lemon juice is a natural skin bleacher that can remove dead skin cells from your skin and remove stretch marks. Just cut a lemon in half and rub the marks with one half, then rinse with warm water after about 10 minutes.
4. Sugar
*Raw sugar is a great exfoliator that can reduce the appearance of your stretch marks. Mix a tablespoon of sugar, a small amount of almond oil and a couple of drops of lemon juice, then apply the mixture on your stretch marks. Rub the mix for 10 minutes, then rinse with warm water.
5. Olive oil
*Olive oil contains essential nutrients and antioxidants that can clean numerous skin problems including stretch marks. Just warm up some olive oil and massage it into the marks to improve the blood circulation in the area and reduce their appearance. Before rinsing off with lukewarm water, leave the oil to work for half an hour and provide your body with vitamin A, D and E.
6. Aloe Vera gel
Fresh Aloe Vera gel can heal the small tears in the skin and restore its elasticity, which are the main causes of stretch marks. Just open up an Aloe leaf and remove the gel from the inside, then use it directly on the marks. Rinse the area with warm water in about 2 hours and repeat the process every day for best results.
