Senua revealed: Ninja Theory announced a new action-adventure game at Xbox Games Showcase 2026 – and it isn't Hellblade 3

Ninja Theory revealed an all-new adventure at the Xbox Games Showcase 2026Senua.

Set after the events of Hellblade and Hellblade 2, Senua sees the warrior venture into a vision of purgatory. It's another stunning, evocative presentation from Ninja Theory. But what this isn't is Hellblade 3, with the studio aiming to deliver a more expansive adventure – one with a wider focus on combat, exploration, and puzzle-solving.

"The title of just Senua really reflects that this is something fresh and new and different. It is a different style of game. I think Hellblade 1 and Hellblade 2 had an intention that we delivered on – but this is a different intention. I think of it as being additive – we're taking all of that goodness and adding the types of things that people expect from a premium action-adventure game," says Dom Matthews, Ninja Theory studio head, in conversation with Xbox Wire.

The studio is keen to stress that Senua is a premium action-adventure title, with Ninja Theory striving to deliver an experience that's more well-rounded than the Hellblade titles – often celebrated for their vision and fidelity, and criticised for their lack of fluidity.

Watch that Senua reveal trailer closely, and you'll notice that the character is engaging multiple enemies at once, a big shift from the more intimate one-on-one combat that defined 2024's Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2. We also see Senua navigating more vertical environments – once again presented lushly in Unreal Engine 5 – with more fluidity, with Ninja Theory pushing for more expansive traversal and exploration.

Ninja Theory does of course have a lot of expertise in the action-adventure genre, having built its reputation on games like Heavenly Sword, DmC: Devil May Cry, and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. How far Senua will lean into action-adventure territories remains to be seen, but we won't have long to wait for more information –Senua is coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X in 2027. It'll also be available on Game Pass from day one.

While you wait for Senua to launch, check out all the other upcoming Xbox Series X games.
