As the long-awaited Final Fantasy 14 patch 7.5 – the very same that seemingly marks a return to the Void – approaches, Square Enix has revealed more about the MMO's exciting update… but not everything about it is positive.
Or, at least, one recently unveiled change isn't. As per a new post on The Lodestone, the go-to official website for all things Final Fantasy 14, limited jobs – including the hotly anticipated Beastmaster class – are facing… well, an unpopular tweak.
As of the release of Patch 7.5 on Tuesday, April 28, Square Enix writes, "limited jobs will only be able to accept" certain kinds of quests: job quests specifically for limited jobs and quests available to all classes.
That's not all, though. "Furthermore, limited jobs will be unable to proceed with certain allied society quests that are quest-synced and require players to maintain the same job or class to completion." The developer concludes with a warning: "Please ensure all applicable pending quests are completed before the release of Patch 7.5."
So, what's wrong with this? Well, it makes limited jobs more, erm, limited. And we don't want that.
A recent Reddit thread on the upcoming change proves I'm not alone in feeling less than pleased, with the poster simply asking, "Why though?" The top comment – an admittedly amusing one – jokes that Square Enix is "putting the 'limited' in 'limited job.'"
Some folks are, uh, especially upset, with another response arguing that the devs "really don't know how to make content worth doing for more than a week."
Why though? from r/ffxivdiscussion
I'm not sure I agree with that, but I definitely understand why the community isn't thrilled to learn of the adjustment.
A separate thread sees other fans echoing these thoughts, too, with one person saying, "I really wish they would stop with these limited jobs. Just make them a full, legit job. The limited job system is so annoying. I would have loved to try my hand with Beastmaster, but sadly, it being a limited job is why I will not even spare it a glance."
Harsh, but it sort of sums up how I feel about the limited jobs myself. I only ever did BLU (Blue Mage) leveling to do so with my pals, but it's not something I love engaging with. This all just makes me less likely to do so, even though I love the idea of a druid-esque class like the Beastmaster job.
Not everyone is in shambles over the 7.5 changes, however. Heck, a good few apparently weren't even aware that limited jobs could do allied society quests. "I'm like 99% sure this is the first time the majority of the playerbase are even learning Blue Mage could do Allied Society quests," as one player states.
Another adds, "I… didn't even know Blue Mage could do those quests. I just always leveled it up fast with someone else." I mean, so did I, but I suppose the real issue here lies in locking limited jobs out of even more content. Sure, they're limited – but now they're limited.
Here's hoping the rest of Final Fantasy 14 patch 7.5 and beyond impress – we've not got too long to wait until Fan Fest and its 8.0 reveal, either, so I'll be keeping my own fingers crossed for a new healer class (yeah, I know… wishful thinking and all that).
