Most people around the world knows that 120/80 is the normal blood pressure, and that anything higher than that requires a visit to the cardiologist. However, according to new guidelines from the ESC Association, this has changed.
The new normal blood pressure is 140 systolic (which is the top number in a blood pressure measurement) and 90 diastolic (bottom number).
At this point it is important to mention that this does not apply for individuals who are suffering from diabetes, in which the limit is 130 over 80, and also for the older population.
This changes things for everyone – previously, individual went to the doctor when their blood pressure was raised to 139/89, but now there’s no need to take meds in this case as this has become the new normal, and shouldn’t increase the risk of heart attack or stroke.
