Most of the cysts that appear behind the ear are benign. However, you need to be aware that some of these lumps can indicate a severe condition. If they do not go away by the end of the fourth week, then you will need to visit your doctor.
The lump may indicate these things:
Sebaceous cysts
These types of cyst are caused by damaged or blocked sebaceous glands. They are usually painless and harmless and if in case the cyst is infected, it can become painful. They can be treated with injected drugs and the doctor can also drain it or remove it surgically.
Lymphoma
It is commonly located behind the ear, but can also develop on the shoulders, neck, arm, thighs, and back. They are benign lumps which can be removed through surgery, especially if they’re big.
Tumors
Tumors behind the ear usually include the salivary glands, mastoid bone or skin. Depending on its location and size, the symptoms can be different. Benign tumors can affect the hearing and cause dizziness
